UnitedHealthcare vs Bronson Healthcare

Bronson Healthcare is currently negotiating reimbursement rates with UnitedHealthcare for renewal of their commercial insurance contract. If they are unable to reach a new agreement, Bronson hospitals, physician offices and outpatient locations may become out of network for UnitedHealthcare plans beginning January 1, 2026. This change would affect individuals with UnitedHealthcare employer-sponsored plans or plans purchased through the Health Insurance Marketplace.

UnitedHealthcare vs Prime Healthcare

As of this date, UnitedHealthcare is reporting that its network negotiations with Prime Healthcare, which owns eight hospitals in Illinois, are still in progress. The contract has already been extended at least once, through October 31, 2025. The eight hospitals in question are former Ascension Illinois hospitals that Primecare acquired earlier this year.

Web searching has not indicated any public statements from Prime Healthcare about the matter. I will be continuing to monitor.

BCBS of Massachusetts vs UMass Memorial

Finding information about the contract dispute between UMass Memorial and BCBS of Massachusetts is still proving elusive. The only news item I’ve found so far is the paywalled Boston Globe article I referenced yesterday. The headline of the Globe article is suggesting this could impact 200,000 people.

Today, after a good bit of web searching, I found that BCBSMA has published a member microsite with FAQs. A thorough search of UMass Memorial’s site yielded no results about their end of the discussion.

I will continue to monitor.

BCBS of Texas vs Southwestern Health Resources

Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas’ more affordable Blue Advantage HMO plan, which offers a narrower network at a lower price, is set to go out of network at Southwestern Health Resources on January 1. The expiration will leave Blue Advantage members unable to access in-network care from providers at UTSW Clements University Hospital or the twenty-nine Texas Health hospitals in the state.

BCBSTX is advising Blue Advantage members to find a new primary care physician who is not affiliated with UTSW or Texas Health or select another plan option during open enrollment to maintain an in-network relationship with the SWHR providers.
